An Introduction To GPS Systems:
Global Position Systems or GPS Systems is a Global Navigation Satellite System operated by the US airforce. The system is a group of 24 satellite orbiting the earth at low to medium height orbits covering every part of our planet earth. The satellites send precise radio signals at a low frequency which when decoded by gps receivers on Earth can give us precise information about our location on Earth.
GPS systems became widely available for civilian use in the 1980's. The satellites cost billions of dollars to be put into orbit and their yearly maintenance costs about 750 million dollars. It is available for civilian use for free as it was felt that it would do greater good as a free system. It anyways needs to be maintained for use by the defence forces for their own navigation, troop deployment, tracking and operations in other countries.
